PENTACON has a long tradition and dates its roots back until the early days of camera manufacturing in and around Dresden, starting at the beginning of the 20th century.
The first time the company did business by the name PENTACON was in 1964 when several companies in the area in and around Dresden were unified. The name comes from the Pentaprism of modern SLR cameras and the early brand name Icon. After the company merger PENTACON became the biggest employer in the region and in 1980 around 9,000 people worked for PENTACON.
In 1990, parts of the company trust were sold to the Jos. Schneider group in Bad Kreuznach and from then on is subsidiary of one of the leading enterprises in the fields of optics. In 1997, the present PENTACON GmbH has beend founded and employs ca. 165 people.
As a respected partner in the fields of optics, plastics, tool making and automotive, we are continously developing our core businesses and enhance our productivity. The symbiosis of combining different technologies is the secret of our growing success.
